This weather phenomenon occurs at intervals of 2 to 7 years when the surface water of the Pacific warms. It affects weather worldwide. Indonesia and Australia usually experience drought, while the west coast of South America receives heavy rainfall. Climate change might cause El Niño to occur more often, and it could be more powerful each time.
