Greenland ice sheet

The Greenland ice sheet is enormous; it corresponds to about 6% of the planet’s fresh water. The ice is melting faster than we thought and could cause the ocean to rise almost 7 meters in 400 years. Half of the 10 largest cities in the world, including New York City, and one-third of the world’s 30 largest cities are already threatened by this sea level rise.
