Paper Production
UNIT: Million tonnes
Paper is one of the major global commodities like corn, cotton, coffee, copper, oil and sugar. It is part of modern life, even in the digital era. About 50% of paper and cardboard is used for packaging. The next largest market is printing. The global market for paper and timber puts pressure on developing countries to destroy forests. Demand for paper keeps rising but supply needs to come from sustainably managed forests or we risk losing essential ecosystems.
